CAREER TIPS

We all have come across many different types of bosses in our lives. And let’s face it, not all have been what you expected. Here are the types of bosses whom you don’t want:
1. A “bossy” type:
Someone who thinks he/she is superior to you and you are just another sub-ordinate to them. They usually are poor leaders.
2. The “psychic” type:
Expects everyone to read his/her mind without talking or discussing their expectations. However, they might know exactly when to intervene, but they won’t.
3. “Be my personal assistant” type:
When you are not a personal assistant nor does it say on your job contract, you do not have to be. Make sure you affirm your limitations and create a boundary. This is particularly hard when we mix our morals with business or work. Remind yourself of your position, your limitations and stick to it. If you feel forced at any time, then it is time for you to change.
4. “Fear me” type:
Someone who creates fear of not following orders in the work environment. Remember, your boss should not be a “Hitler”, and you should not be just a “follower”! If this person creates fear in you, it means they have something to hide and has a PhD in creating dysfunctional dynamics for their own benefit! Never give in to this.
5. “Repeat after me” type:
Someone who wants you to do exactly what they have said to you. This means no room for creativity, lack of trust, inability to understand their colleagues’ strengths and weaknesses, inability to accept change and deflect change/growth. They are bad at collaboration and do not possess an open mind.
6. “The invisible man” type:
Someone who simply never shows up anywhere or for anything. But when they do, they have no clue of what has gone behind the scenes. Perhaps, shows up only at a climax.
Last but not the least, as you read above you realise, they are qualities of a true bad leader or a bad boss! A good leader, however, is someone who uplifts you, motivates you, pushes you to be better each day, gives you opportunities to grow and rediscover yourself, teaches you how to be independent, walks shoulder to shoulder with you, is proud of you, finds their representation in you, open to collaboration, open-minded, knows how unity works and above all thrives to make you a good leader in return.
